According to one Advance in Psychiatric Treatment commentary, when anger is left unaddressed, it can begin to passive-aggressive behaviour. This behaviour may be self-destructive & contribute to feelings of depression. Robert London recommends that anyone undergoing aggression or hostility. Even an unusually quick temper, handle conflicts with others to work toward a reasonable resolution. Communicating with a counsellor or therapist can also prove helpful in sorting for feelings of anger & coming up with effective ways of dealing with them.

Hopelessness

Psychiatrist Vinick says, “One of the critical symptoms of depression is a feeling of hopelessness.” Feelings of hopelessness can disincline people from trying treatment for their depression. Those suffering from severe hopelessness may not think they will or can ever feel better, which shows why some attempt suicide. What’s more, some specialists believe hopelessness can provide to the development of depression. For people who with depression, feelings of hopelessness are developed almost time through a history of failures. These failures may be either actual or imagined, and self-criticism can act a large role in the latter.

Loss of Interest

People can lose interest in something they usually enjoy, such as sports, movies, and time spent with friends & family. This symptom is called anhedonia, according to psychiatrist Gelbart. He says, unfortunately, a loss of interest can increase feelings of loneliness, leading to further depression. According to Robert London, this loss of interest may be for the changes in the brain’s levels of reward-regulating hormones and neurotransmitters. It’s a self-destructive cycle that can be painful for people suffering from depression to break.

Significant weight Changes

When depressed, many people lose interest in eating, because of they no longer enjoy the food. On the other side, they may emotionally eat in a conscious or unconscious try to change their mood. According to a 2003 research in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, eating foods enriched with carbohydrates can momentarily promote the synthesis of the feel-good chemical serotonin in the brain. Depression-induced inactivity can also provide weight gain. If a person undergoes a change in body weight of more than 05% in a month, medical attention is necessary, according to Robert London.

Changes in Sleep Habits

According to one 2008 review published in the Discussions in Clinical Neuroscience, about 03-quarters of the people with depression suffer from insomnia. Psychiatrist Gelbart explains Constant worries, anxiety & pondering will lead to complications with staying or falling asleep.”

Many people pay for bad sleep by slapping the snooze button, taking piles or guzzling coffee, which can cause falling asleep at night even more difficult. And, like various symptoms of depression, poor sleep only causes depression worse. Meanwhile, according to the same research, about 40% of depressed young adults [most commonly young women] sleep extremely when depressed.

Fatigue

Depression can grievously take it out of you. Psychiatrist Forand says “Depressed peoples’ bodies act as though they are under continuous stress, which can lead to soreness, which in turn can provide feelings of fatigue”. Even if they don’t understand they are depressed, many people suffering from depression will complain of feeling tired, sluggish & physically exhausted, according to Psychiatrist Robert London.

These identical people often face sleep disturbances, which can increase feelings of fatigue & grogginess. In some cases, this fatigue can expose itself through celebrated speech, poor reaction times & slowed-down walking, gestures and other movements.

Unexplained Aches & Pains

According to Psychiatrist Vinick, ” Often, when depressed peoples do seek medical care, their objections aren’t depression at all. It’s aches & pains, like stomach troubles & joint and back pain.” She explains that the norepinephrine influence and neurotransmitters serotonin not only mood but also biological & neurological processes that can appear in pain.

What’s more, depression can touch how pain is perceived in the brain. Psychiatrist Forand says, “Pain signals from the body that are usually diverted can instead be amplified.” He says-“People who are depressed also do to have a lot of adverse self-focused attention, So they might be more likely to notify pain sensations & concentrate on them, that can make the perception of pain worse.”
